Aesop Fable's etchings

These images were drawn by etcher Wenceslaus Hollar, and subsequently used in John Ogilby’s Aesop Fables. Each drawing was given a title and morally focused story that encouraged readers to learn from the past to move forward. These stories were known as “The Fox and The Cat,” “The Stag and The Pool,” “The Bear and the Honey,” and “Of the Husbandman and the Serpent.” Hollar used an etching technique to draw these detailed illustrations, creating a realistic drawing that offered the reader an escape from the past.
